Product Update Campaign: NSX Electronic Power Steering
(Supersedes 97-037, dated October 28, 1997)

BACKGROUND

The Electronic Power Steering (EPS) control unit does a system check during engine starting. If the steering wheel is moved during this system check, the control unit detects it as an error. It turns on the EPS indicator on the instrument panel, and turns off the EPS.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

All owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by mail. The owner will be asked to take the vehicle to an Acura dealer for repair. The text of the customer letter is at the end of this service bulletin.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the EPS control unit with an updated unit.

REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Remove the dashboard lower cover below the glove box.

2. Remove the clip, then pull back the carpet on the passenger's side.





3. Remove the speaker cover and speaker.





4. Disconnect the three connectors from the EPS control unit.

5. Remove the EPS control unit.

6. Install the new EPS control unit. Torque the mounting bolts to 9.8 N-m (7 lb-ft).

7. Reinstall the speaker, speaker cover, carpet, and dashboard lower cover.

8. Start the engine, and make sure the EPS indicator goes out.





9. Center-punch a completion mark above the first character of the engine compartment VIN.
