Navigation System DTC Troubleshooting: 1801
DTC 1801: HIP Error
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first. Testing and Inspection

- Check for and resolve any B-CAN DTCs before troubleshooting.
- Check any official Honda service website for any service information about the AcuraLink or software updates.
With AcuraLink
1. Clear the hard error code. How to Troubleshoot the Navigation System
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).
3. Check for a hard error code. How to Troubleshoot the Navigation System
Is DTC 1801 indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
5. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at AcuraLink control unit connector A (32P), and navigation unit connector D (5P).
Are the connections OK?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - Repair poor connections or loose terminals.
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
7. Check for XM (HIP) communication with the HDS.
Is the communication OK?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - Do the AcuraLink control unit Troubleshooting.
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
9. Disconnect AcuraLink control unit connector A (32P) and navigation unit connector D (5P).
10. Check for continuity between terminals of AcuraLink control unit connector A (32P) according to the table.
Is there continuity between any of terminals?
YES - There is a short in the wire(s) between the AcuraLink control unit and the navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO - Go to step 11.
11. Check for continuity between body ground and AcuraLink control unit connector A (32P) terminals No. 17, No. 18, No. 19, and No. 20 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - There is a short in the wire(s) between AcuraLink control unit connector A (32P) and body ground. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO - Go to step 12.
12. Connect the AcuraLink control unit connector A (32P) terminals No. 17, No. 18, No. 19, and No. 20 to body ground with a jumper wire.
13. Check for continuity between body ground and navigation unit connector D (5P) terminals No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Replace the navigation unit. Service and Repair
NO - There is an open in the wire(s) between AcuraLink control unit connector A (32P) and navigation unit connector D (5P). Replace the affected shielded harness.
