85-61
SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-61, 85-62
DTC 85-61: No Signal From the ODS Unit
DTC 85-62: Non-Stipulated Data From the ODS Unit
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures, Service and Repair General Troubleshooting Information, Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection. Procedures
1. Clear the DTC memory. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
2. Read the DTC. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Is DTC 85-61 or 85-62 indicated?
YES - Go to step 3.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
3. Check the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness, right side wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness).
4. Disconnect the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
6. Measure the voltage between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 7.
NO - Open between No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 1 (dashboard wire harness, right side wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
8. Measure the resistance between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 12 and body ground. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms
Is resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 9.
NO - Open between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No 12 and body ground (G651) or poor connection at G651. Right Side Wire Harness (Front Branch) Connector And Harness Locations
9. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
10. Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit. Service and Repair
11. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 12.
NO - Short to ground between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (dashboard wire harness, left side wire harness, right side wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
12. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 13.
NO - Open between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (dashboard wire harness, left side wire harness, right side wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
13. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
14. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
15. Measure the voltage between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and body ground. There should be less than 0.2 V.
Is there battery voltage as specified?
YES - Go to step 16.
NO - Short to power between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (dashboard wire harness, left side wire harness, right side wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
16. Replace the ODS unit. ODS Unit Replacement
17. Clear the DTC. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
18. Read the DTC. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Is DTC 85-61 or 85-62 indicated?
YES - Replace the SRS unit. SRS Unit Replacement
NO - This system is OK.
