SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-79
DTC 85-79: OPDS Unit Failure
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
1. Clear the DTC memory. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator go off?
YES - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
NO - Go to step 3.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
4. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
5. Clear the DTC memory. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator go off?
YES - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
NO - Go to step 7.
7. Initialize the ODS unit. Programming and Relearning
8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator go off?
YES - The system is OK.
NO - Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit, ODS Unit Replacement then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the OPDS sensor/seat-back, Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement then clear the DTC.
