SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 86-1x, 86-2x (x can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F)

DTC 86-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F): Faulty OPDS Seat-Back Sensor

DTC 86-2x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F): Faulty OPDS Seat Support Sensor

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

1. Clear the DTC memory. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

3. Read the DTC. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Is DTC 86-1x or 86-2x indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.


4. Check the connection front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) and the sensor connectors (B).

Is the connection OK?
YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Repair the poor connection, and clear the DTC, then clear the DTC.






5. Replace the front passenger's seat-back cover/pad. Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement

6. Initialize the ODS unit. Programming and Relearning

7. Clear the DTC memory. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

8. Read the DTC. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Is DTC 86-1x or 86-2x indicated?
YES - Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit, ODS Unit Replacement then clear the DTC. If the problem is still present, replace the SRS unit. SRS Unit Replacement

NO - The system is OK.
