Audio System Description

Audio System Description

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)/Active Sound Control (ASC)

Both the active noise cancellation and active sound control are built into the active sound control unit. Both systems help eliminate unwanted sound from entering the passenger compartment. There are two microphones mounted in the headliner, one just behind the front overhead console and the other just ahead of the overhead rear light module. The microphones listen for frequencies entering the passenger compartment and send a signal to the active noise cancellation unit. The active noise cancellation unit then creates a sound wave that sent out through the speakers to eliminate the unwanted sound.

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) System

The active noise cancellation system works to cancel engine booming sound up to 2,000 rpm. The audio unit receives the engine speed pulse (NEP) from the PCM and outputs a sine wave through the audio speakers to cancel the low frequency sound from the engine. The active noise cancellation also uses the two microphones to detect and monitor low frequency sound noise in the passenger compartment. The microphones feed information back to the audio unit which adjusts the speaker output to reduce the noise. The active noise cancellation also receives an input from the door open/close (INTR LT) signal from the MICU so that when a door is opened, the active noise cancellation system temporarily stops working.

Active Sound Control (ASC) System

The active sound control is the next generation of eliminating unwanted sound in the passenger compartment. The active sound control has a much broader range than the active noise cancellation system. In addition to the microphones in the headliner, the active sound control also receives input from the engine speed pulse (NEP).

Overview

The audio unit acts as the processor for all audio functions. You can select the audio functions from the front panel, the audio remote (on steering wheel), or by using the navigation voice control system. The audio display provides the current front and rear audio status. For vehicles with the navigation option, additional audio information is available by touching the audio button. (See the owner's manual for more details.)

Each audio component passes its audio signal to the audio unit. In addition, it communicates with the audio unit via the GA-Net bus. Any open connection in this circuit will cause audio and navigation functions to appear inoperative.

With the premium sound system, an audio amplifier unit powers the speakers, otherwise the speakers are powered directly by the audio unit.

The 6CD changer output can be directed to the audio unit.

The XM radio plays through the audio unit.

A security signal is daisy-chained between the audio and navigation components and integrated into the vehicle's alarm system.

The optional navigation system provides voice control for the front/rear audio, the XM, and the CD player. Voice control commands are communicated through the GA-Net (audio unit). When using the TALK/BACK or route guidance (RG), only the center speaker is muted and the front speakers give the navigation instructions. When using the HFL/AcuraLink, the center speaker, the rear speakers, and the subwoofer are muted and the front speakers give the telephone sound. When using the HFL/AcuraLink and the RG (Route Guidance) or voice response, the center speaker, the rear speakers, and the subwoofer are muted and the front speakers give the telephone sound and the navigation instructions. Muting commands are passed on the GA-Net bus. For more information, see the navigation section. The outline of the audio interruption function is shown in the following table.

Bluetooth Audio

Bluetooth audio allows music phones to play music via a car audio system using Bluetooth technology.

You can control the phone's music player remotely using the wireless connection.

Bluetooth phones must be paired to the vehicle to use the Bluetooth audio function.

- You can play music stored in your cell phone using the wireless connection*1

- You can choose next song, previous song and resume/pause via wireless*2

*1: The phone must support AVRC1.0, A2DP1.0 for Bluetooth(R) technology.

*2: Not all phones support the Bluetooth audio function.

Supported Devices

- Bluetooth music phones that support AVRC1.0/A2DP1.0.

- Bluetooth adapters for portable music devices including iPod are not supported.

NOTE:

- Availability of the functions depends on the connected device.

- The latest support information is updated through the website www.acura.com/handsfreelink.

Pairing a Cell Phone

To pair a cell phone, refer to paring a cell phone in the HandsFreeLink system. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview Once a cell phone is paired, the process does not have to be repeated for the phone.

How to play the Bluetooth Audio

Procedure

1. Push the DISP/AUX button to select the Bluetooth Audio source.
NOTE:

- If you push the DISC/AUX button when no cell phone is connected, NO CONNECT is displayed.

- If you see NO CONNECT when you are using cell phone music function, check that the device is properly paired, the cell phone may not be compatible. See www.acura.com/handsfreelink for more information.

- Music titles and artist names are not displayed.

2. Start playing the music in the paired cell phone.
NOTE: Depending on the cell phone, the music may start automatically, or the user may need to select headset as an audio output.

3. A user can select the next song or the previous song using the SKIP button.

4. A user can select pause and resume by selecting [RESUME/PAUSE] in the AUDIO MENU, using the interface dial.
