USB device does not function (without navigation)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Testing and Inspection.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Make sure you have the client's USB device to use for testing.
- Not all players and player functions work with the USB jack. Please see the owner's manual for more information. Always test the clients USB device in a known-good vehicle of the same year and trim (if possible). Technologies change and are updated frequently which may result in that USB devices may work in newer vehicles, but not in older vehicles of the same model.
- Make sure that the music player connected to the USB port works properly.
- The USB device used for testing should conform to the "USB mass storage class" standard.
- The USB function is not compatible with a USB memory of 128 MB or less.
- The music must be saved to the player as WMA (Windows Media Audio) files or MP3. MP3 files saved in a variable bit rate are not compatible.
- If UNSUPPORTED appears on the display, the vehicle is OK, there is a software problem with the USB device.
1. Connect a known-good music player to the USB port.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
3. Press the AUX button, and check if it changes to USB mode.
Does it change to the USB mode?
YES -
Go to step 4.
NO -
Go to step 14.
4. Check that the client's USB memory device for inspection functions properly when it is connected to a known-good vehicle.
Does the device work properly?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
The music player or the music device cable is either defective or incompatible.
5. Check if NO DATA appears when the music player is connected to the USB port.
Does NO DATA appear?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Go to step 10.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
7. Check the connectors at USB adapter unit connector B (5P), the USB adapter cable, and the USB jack.
Are the connectors and terminals connected properly?
YES -
Go to step 8.
NO -
Repair the connection, and recheck.�
8. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector B (5P).
9. Check for continuity between USB adapter unit connector B (5P) and the USB jack according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the USB adapter unit USB Adapter Unit Replacement.�
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter unit and the USB jack. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
10. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (AM, FM, XM and CD).
Is the sound normal?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Go to No sound is heard from the speaker(s) No Sound Is Heard From the Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (Without Navigation).�
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
12. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P).
13. Check for continuity between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the USB adapter unit USB Adapter Unit Replacement.�
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit. Repair or replace the affected harness.�
14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
15. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P).
16. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
17. Measure the voltage between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 11.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 18.
NO -
Go to step 25.
18. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
19. Disconnect audio unit connector C (14P).
20. Check for continuity between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 21.
NO -
There is an open or short in the wire(s) between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit. Repair or replace the affected harness.�
21. Disconnect these items:
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
- XM receiver connector A (14P)
22. Check for continuity between body ground and USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminals No. 2, No. 9, and No. 10 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between USB adapter connector A (14P) and body ground.�
NO -
Go to step 23.
23. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short in the wires between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
NO -
Go to step 24.
24. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (AM, FM, XM and CD).
Is the sound normal?
YES -
Replace the USB adapter unit USB Adapter Unit Replacement.�
NO -
Replace the audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).�
25. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
26. Disconnect these items:
- Audio unit connector C (14P)
- XM receiver connector A (14P)
27. Check for continuity between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 28.
NO -
Repair an open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit.�
28. Reconnect audio unit connector C (14P).
29. Measure the voltage between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 30.
NO -
Repair an open in the wire between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit.�
30. Reconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P).
31. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
32. Measure the voltage between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 11 and body ground.
Is there less than 0.2 V?
YES -
Check the pin fit and the connections. If the connections are OK, substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit. If the symptom is still present, substitute a known-good USB adapter unit USB Adapter Unit Replacement, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original USB adapter unit.�
NO -
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit.�
