If the starter does not work, check and repair the following:
^ Battery voltage is OK.
^ Battery and starter connections are not corroded.
^ There is current at terminal 50 of starter when ignition key is turned to start position.
If tests prove OK, the problem may be a broken starter bearing housing.
Prevent recurrence of this problem by installing a starter support when replacing starter.

Work Sequence
- Remove battery ground (-) cable
- Install engine support 10-222
Fig. 2 - Starter and engine mounts:
- Remove engine mount (Fig. 2, arrows 1 and 2)
- Remove starter wiring and starter
- Remove alternator ground wire (Fig. 2, arrow 4)
- Install new starter
^ 40 N-m (29 ft.lb.)
- Attach starter wires
- Fasten starter support to starter
^ Do not tighten
- Fasten starter support to engine block
^ Do not tighten
- Tighten starter support nuts at starter
^ 8 N-m (6 ft.lb.)
- Tighten starter support to engine block
^ 25 N-m (18 lb.ft.)
- Attach alternator ground wire to starter support
- Install engine mounts (Fig. 2, arrows 1 and 2)
^ Mount 2 to engine block 45 N-m (34 lb.ft.)
^ Nut 3 35 N-m (26 lb.ft.)
- Attach battery ground (-) cable
