Average Speed Display, Checking:

Average speed display, checking


- switch ignition ON
- push reset button for 2 min (with vehicle running)
^ display: average speed

If average speed is displayed, - check average fuel consumption display

If average speed is not displayed, - check function selector switch

Note

Speed must be displayed on speedometer

If speed is displayed, - check for wiring break between computer and computer control

If speed is not displayed on speedometer, - check speedometer sensor

Average Fuel Consumption Display, Checking:

- switch ignition ON
- select MPG
- push reset button for 2 minutes (with vehicle running)
^ display: average fuel consumption

If average fuel consumption is displayed, - check range reading (Mi)

Note

If after pressing reset button a value of 200 is displayed, - repair broken ground wire (contact 3) of fuel consumption sensor OR
- wires on fuel consumption sensor (contacts 1 and 3) are reversed

If average fuel consumption of 0-5 MPG is displayed, - repair wires from contacts 1 or 2 of fuel consumption sensor
- check fuel consumption display sensor

Range Reading Mi:

Note

In the following test, computer control unit specifies average fuel consumption of 23.5 MPG.

Example: with a full fuel tank, range reading (Mi) of approx. 400-500 mi is displayed.


- switch ignition OFF
- press reset button and hold
- switch ignition ON
- release reset button
^ Display: range reading (Mi)

Fuel level must be displayed on fuel gauge in instrument cluster.

If fuel level is not displayed, - check fuel gauge

If fuel level is displayed, - check wires between fuel gauge and control unit

If no break, - replace computer control unit

Fuel Consumption from Start G, Checking:

Fuel consumption from start G, checking


- switch ignition ON
- select G, function
- press reset button for 2 minutes (while driving vehicle)
^ display: (after 3 mi) 0-1 liter or 0.1-0.3 gallon

If amount of fuel used is not displayed, - check computer control unit, OR
- check computer
