Fuel Gauge, Checking Work Sequence
Fuel Gauge, CheckingWork Sequence:
- remove trim panel in luggage compartment
- remove cover (arrows) for fuel gauge sensor
Electrical Connector:
- disconnect electrical connector for fuel gauge sensor
25-Point Connector:
- disconnect 25-point connector from computer control unit
- connect voltmeter between contacts 15 and 12
- switch ignition ON
^ specified value: 9.75-10.25 V
- switch ignition OFF If specified value is not attained, - replace voltage stabilizer OR
- replace break in wiring using current flow diagram
Connect Voltmeter Between Contacts:
- connect voltmeter between contacts 15 and 6
Gauge Sensor Connector:
- connect tester VW 1301 to outer contacts of fuel gauge sensor connector
- adjust tester as follows:
^ empty 544
^ full 60
- switch ignition ON
^ specified value with tester set to 544 approx 1.5 V
^ specified value with tester set to 60 approx 5.6 V
If specified voltages are not attained check for break in wiring using current flow diagram

Note
Pointer of fuel gauge must correspond to illustrations when testing fuel sensor

Thumbwheel:
Note
Slight variations of fuel gauge display can be corrected by adjusting with thumbwheel (arrow)
Speedometer Sensor:
Speedometer sensor, checking
- disconnect wiring from speedometer sensor
Fuel Sensor Connector:
- connect voltmeter to outer contacts of fuel sensor connector
- switch ignition ON
^ specified value: 12.0 V
If specified value is not attained, - repair break in wiring
If specified value is attained, - remove speedometer sensor from transmission
Speedometer Cable:
- reconnect wires to speedometer sensor
- connect voltmeter between contacts 2 and 3
- switch ignition ON
- turn speedometer cable clockwise
^ specified value: 0.0 to 8.0 V (pulsing voltage reading)
- switch ignition OFF
If specified voltage is not attained, - replace speedometer sensor
If specified voltage is attained.
Speedometer Sensor Connector:
- check continuity between wire from speedometer sensor connector contact 2 and contact 5 of 25- point connector of computer control unit
Connector:
^ specified value: approx 0.0 ohm
If specified value is not attained, - check for break in wiring using current flow diagram
If specified value is attained, - replace computer control unit and/or computer
