Gasoline and Engine Performance
As an Audi owner, you expect your car to start easily, warm up rapidly, and run smoothly under all operating conditions. However, the high tech engines produced today require proper care to perform as they were designed. A major concern among many auto manufacturers is carbon deposit build-up caused by the type of gasoline you use. Knowing a few important facts about gasoline can help eliminate this problem and save you some valuable time and money.Although gasolines differ from one supplier to another, there is a common thread. All gasolines contain properties that can cause deposits to collect on essential engine components, specifically fuel injectors and intake valves. Although most gasoline brands include additives to keep engine and fuel systems clean, they are not equally effective.
After an extended period of using inadequate fuels, built-up carbon deposits can rob your engine of peak performance. And carbon deposits like those in the following illustration can lead to other engine performance problems, such as:
^ unstable idling ^ power loss
^ surging ^ engine run-on
^ misfiring ^ engine pinging or knocking
If these problems continue over a long period of time, engine damage could occur.
RECENT FUEL DEVELOPMENTS
Over the past few years, we have seen a greater increase in manufacturers' advertising by oil companies promoting detergent additives in their gasoline. These additives are primarily intended to keep fuel injectors clean.
However, they we not all equally effective in reducing carbon deposit build-up on intake valves. We are aware that, as of the time of printing, fuel producers such as Shell and Chevron supply premium grade unleaded gasolines which include deposit control additives for reducing damaging carbon deposits. There may be others in your area.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Audi engines have one of the most sophisticated fuel injection systems in the industry to provide smooth and consistent operation.
In order to maintain satisfactory performance of your car's engine, you should use gasoline brands that include these deposit control additives.
If the brand of fuel you we using does not contain these additives, ask your Audi Dealer about "Autobahn Gasoline Additive". This product contains Techron(R) which is a specially formulated ingredient that helps keep your Audi engine running cleanly and prevents or reduces carbon deposits on intake valves and fuel injection components.
As an Audi owner, you expect performance. Keep your car running in peak condition by using suitable fuels or fuel additives.
