Heated seat element, removing
Work sequence
- disconnect battery ground strap
- remove Phillip head screws and take off plastic seat track covers
- unscrew and remove end caps at rear of seat tracks
Note
Vehicles with power operated seats
- remove both hex head bolts (arrows)
Vehicles without power operated seats
- remove acorn nut A, take off bolt B
- pull seat adjustment handle to release retaining rod C from seat guide
- push seat to rear and out of seat tracks
- tilt seat back for access to electrical connectors under seat
- disconnect all electrical connectors to seat
^ tag wires for proper identification
- remove seat assembly from vehicle and place on workbench
- remove plastic rear backrest cover of front seat
- remove side trim panel covers from seat cushion
- remove backrest assembly
- loosen seat cover from seat cushion
- remove upholstery clips and seat cover
- cut off old element side panels (as shown)
^ Do not cut closer than a to seat cover seam a = 5.0 mm (13/64 in.)
CAUTION
Do not cut into leather seat cover.
- cut out top cover, foam padding and old element from center section (as shown)
^ Do not cut closer than a to seat cover seam a = 5.0 mm (13/64 in.)
Note
If foam padding is damaged, replace with padding Part No. 447 881 361B.
Heated seat element, installing
Work sequence
- place foam padding cut from center section onto seat cushion (as shown)
^ trim to fit
- secure with 3M Trim Adhesive or equivalent
- place new heating element onto seat cushion
- install seat cover to seat cushion at 14 slit points with upholstery clips (as shown)
- glue side element sections to seat cushion with 3M (R) Trim Adhesive or equivalent
^ keep wrinkle free
- complete reinstalling seat cover to seat cushion
- install seat components in reverse order
- place seat at rear of seat tracks
- tilt seat back and reconnect electrical connectors
- reinstall seat to track
- reconnect battery ground strap
- check seat for proper function
Note
Backrest element replacement procedure is identical.
