Differential Oil Seal & Bearing For Propeller Shaft Flange

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove catalytic converter and exhaust pipe.
2. Tie exhaust system over to right side, then scribe a mark on propeller shaft and differential flange prior to disassembly.
3. Disconnect propeller shaft and tie up out of way.
4. Mark position of pinion nut to pinion, then install holder tool 3028, or equivalent, and remove pinion nut.
5. Remove puller flange using puller tool VW 391, or equivalent.
6. Remove differential oil seal, then drive in new oil seal up to stop using seal installer tool 3026, or equivalent.
7. Reinstall pinion flange, ensure nut and threads are free of oil and grease. Coat threads lightly with locking compound D 000 600, or equivalent.
8. Tighten pinion nut exactly to previously marked position, then peen nut.
9. Reinstall propeller shaft to previously marked position and torque bolts to 40 ft. lbs.
10. Reinstall catalytic converter and exhaust pipe, then lower vehicle.
