Air Bag Systems

- The table lists possible airbag system malfunctions that can be recognized by the airbag control module -J234-. Each of these malfunctions is stored as a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in the airbag control module's DTC memory, and can be checked using the VAG1551 scan tool.
- If malfunctions occur sporadically, or if DTC memory was not erased after correcting malfunctions, these malfunctions will be recognized as sporadic malfunctions, displayed with "/SP" on the right side of the VAG1551 scan tool display.
- If a component is diagnosed with a malfunction, check the wiring to that component using the wiring diagram.
- If several component malfunctions are indicated, service one component at a time, erasing and rechecking DTC memory after each malfunction is corrected.
