Rear Disc Brake Assembly

MODEL(s):
Cabriolet From 1994 M.Y.

The rear brake caliper configuration and installation procedures in this bulletin have been introduced for the 1994 Audi Cabriolet and will be incorporated in the repair manual - Audi 90, from 1993 M.Y. Suspension, Wheels, Brakes, steering - Front Wheel Drive, at the next printing.





REAR BRAKE, ASSEMBLY

CAUTION
When rebuilding the caliper, install all the components provided in the repair kit. After repairs, the brakes can be tested on any commercial dynamometer providing the driving roller speed does not exceed 5.5km/h (3.4 m/h)

1 - Parking brake cable adjustment is similar to procedure outlined in the Audi 80/90 repair manual - 1988-1992, Brakes- Steering, page 46.21

Note
Rear brakes must be in adjustment before adjusting the parking brake.

2 - Circlip

^ always replace

3 - 35 Nm (26 ft lb)

^ always replace

^ when loosening/tightening, hold guide pin

4 - Caliper housing

^ when replacing brake pads, remove from brake pad carrier

CAUTION
DO NOT allow the caliper to hang by the flexible brake hose. Rest caliper on the brake pad carrier or suspend it with a stiff wire to avoid stretching the hose.

5 - Brake pad carrier

6 - 65 Nm (48 ft lb)

^ if protective caps are damaged, install repair kit, Part No. 443 698 470

CAUTION
Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your parts department.

7 - Brake pads
^ checking thickness of outer pads can be done through hole in wheel rim using flashlight
^ if thickness is down to 7 mm (0.275 in.) including backing plate, the pads have reached their wear limit and must be replaced
^ replace brake pad sets in pairs (per axle)
^ push caliper piston into housing using special tool 3272 by turning threaded spindle of tool clockwise and knurled end counterclockwise

8 - Brake disc
^ always replace brake discs in pairs (per axle)
^ remove caliper before removing disc
^ if machining is necessary remove equal amounts of material from each side of disc and only enough to eliminate scoring
^ disc diameter 245 mm (9.65 in.)
^ disc thickness 10 mm (.394 in.) wear limit 8 mm (.315 in.)
