Instrument cluster, removing and installing
WARNING! Airbags and related equipment (e.g. steering wheel) must only be disassembled, assembled and repaired by trained Audi Service Department personnel
- Before working on any airbag, steering wheel or steering column components, always disconnect the battery.
- For my. 1994 and 1995 vehicles, disconnecting the battery alone will NOT prevent the accidental deployment of the airbag(s). Always disconnect the airbag power supply harness connector, and refer to the all airbag system Warnings and Cautions.
- Make sure that no person is in the vehicle when connecting the battery Ground strap.
CAUTION! Before disconnecting the battery, determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.
Removing
- Remove driver's side airbag unit. Service and Repair
- Remove steering wheel cover. Service and Repair
Note: The steering wheel cover is also secured with two clips. The cover is released from securing points by pulling firmly on upper half of cove,; then repeat procedure at bottom. Press cover to one side and remove.
- Disconnect harness connector.
- Remove steering wheel. Service and Repair
- Tightening torque: 40 Nm (30 ft lb)
- Insert screwdriver (as shown) and loosen securing clamp for switch.
- Remove mounting screws (arrows).
- If necessary, cover steering column using soft cloth (to avoid scratches) and carefully fold down instrument cluster.
- Disconnect harness connectors and remove instrument cluster. Service and Repair
