Wiring Harness: Service and Repair

0.35 mm2 wire connection, servicing

NOTE:
- Repair kit VAS 1978 includes repair wires of three different thicknesses (0.5 mm2, 1.5 mm2, 4.0 mm2) and the corresponding crimp connectors.
- Use 0.5 mm2 repair wire to repair a 0.35 mm2 wire.
- Perform repair as follows:

- Using wire strip pliers, strip ends of 0.35 mm2 wire so that length of bare metal is twice as long as required for connection (approx. 12 to 14 mm).
- Fold up stripped wire ends half way.
- Using wire strip pliers, strip off ends of 0.5 mm2 wire (approx. 6 to 7 mm).

- Push crimp connectors over wire ends and crimp at both sides with crimping pliers.
Do not crimp insulation at end of wire.
Be sure to use the correct crimping slot (red color code for 0.5 mm2 wires).

- After crimping, seal crimping connector by shrinking it using a hot air blower.
Heat crimp connector from center outward until it is completely sealed and adhesive oozes out.

Adjust hot air blower to appropriate temperature according to instructions.

When heating connector, be careful not to damage any other wiring, plastic parts or insulating material with the hot nozzle.

- If wire was originally wrapped, wrap it again using yellow insulating tape. If necessary, secure wiring using new cable ties.
