Expansion Block/Orifice Tube: Service and Repair
Restrictor, Removing And Installing
NOTE: Up to model year 2001, restrictors with yellow color markings were installed (diameter of hole/narrow neck 1.54 mm). As of model year 2002, restrictors with red color markings are installed (diameter of hole/narrow neck 1.42 mm). Changing the restrictor does not change the filling quantity of R-134a refrigerant in this vehicle.
Removing
- Discharge A/C refrigerant system
- Disconnect refrigerant lines by unscrewing threaded connection -A- (seal off open connections).
- Pull restrictor out of refrigerant line -B-using needle nose pliers.
Installing
NOTE: Only install same version restrictor (color). Restrictors with different colors have different diameters in restrictor hole:
- Install restrictor -B- on proper side (arrow on restrictor points in direction of evaporator).
- The restrictor must fit in refrigerant line without play.
- Check O-ring seal -C- (7.5 mm x 1.5 mm) for correct seating in groove.
- Replace O-ring seals (11.1 mm x 1.8 mm).
- Before installing O-ring seal into restrictor lubricate O-ring seal with refrigerant oil.
- Install refrigerant lines free of stress.
- Tighten threaded connection -A- to: 15 Nm.
NOTE: After tightening the threaded connection, check refrigerant lines position lines should not touch other components.
