Rear Pyrotechnic Belt Tensioners, Triggering

NOTE:
- Observe safety rules for handling pyrotechnic belt tensioners.
- Belts can be disposed of with commercial refuse after removal.
- Always wash hands after handling belt tensioners which have been activated.

- Remove rear bench seat.
- Remove rear seat backrest.
- Except USA: Cut off belt above latch plate approx. 20 cm below belt reel.
- In USA: Pull belt out completely and prevent belt rolling up with a knot which is as close as possible to the belt reel (because of the belt-fastened sensor).
- Disconnect connector from belt reel and connect wiring harness (part no. 8D1 971 259).
- Cut connector off at other end and insulate both cable ends.
- Slit cable sheath until ends of cables are at least 30 cm apart.
- Make sure there is no-one in the vehicle.
- Close doors and open windows.
- Trigger gas generator using wiring harness and external battery, which is positioned outside of vehicle.
- Ventilate vehicle adequately.
