Flywheel: Service and Repair



Dual-mass flywheel/drive plate, removing and installing

Dual-mass flywheel

Special tools and repair equipment required

Counterhold 10-201:





Removing





- Reverse position of counterhold 10-201 to loosen/tighten bolts.
- Mark position of flywheel relative to engine.
- Unbolt and remove flywheel.

Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- Replace bolts.





Drive plate

Special tools and repair equipment required

Counterhold VW 558:





^ Hex bolt M8 x 45 and two M10 hex nuts
^ Caliper gauge or depth gauge

Removing





- Secure counterhold VW 558 to drive plate using hex bolt M8 x 45 - 2-. Place two M10 hex nuts -1- between counterhold and drive plate.
- Mark position of drive plate relative to engine.
- Unbolt drive plate.

Installing





- Locate drive plate with shim -2- and packing plate -1-. Lug (arrow) must face toward torque converter.
- Insert at least 3 old securing bolts and tighten to 30 Nm.





- Perform measurement by passing sliding caliper with depth gauge through hole used for securing converter.
^ Specification: 18.9... 20.5 mm

If measured value exceeds specification:





- Remove drive plate again and correct value by installing with/without shim -2-. Tighten bolts to 30 Nm again.
- Measure distance again.

If measured value matches specification:
- Install new bolts and tighten.
