Preliminary Diagnosis

Telematics/V60 phone diagnostics must be followed completely in the sequence outlined in this Technical Bulletin.

^ Connect VAS 5051/5052 Diagnostic tool.

^ Switch ignition ON.

^ Check DTC memory of all applicable control modules (address words: 07, 16, 47, 56, &75).

Tip:
The following DTCs may be encountered in the telematics control unit and are NOT reason for replacement of the telematics control unit or the emergency battery:

^ 01477/005 - System switched off - no or incorrect basic setting/adaptation. (This DTC is displayed by default as long as telematics control unit is not activated)

^ 02084/005 - Component protection no or incorrect basic setting/adaptation. (This DTC is displayed by default as long as telematics control unit is not learned to GEKO).





^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Select address word "19 - Diagnostic interface for data-bus".





^ Select diagnosis function "Reading / writing long coding".





^ Check coding of address words "67 - Voice Control" and "77 - Telephone".

Both address words should be "not coded".

To change address words from "coded" to "not coded".

^ Touch screen on top of word "coded" (arrow).

^ Use forward arrow to proceed with address word coding.





Confirmation screen appears as shown.

^ Select OK button to authorize module coding.

Selected address word will update from "coded" to "not coded".

^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Check coding of all applicable control modules. Address words: 07, 16, 47, 56, &75).

Control module coding should be as follows:

^ Telematics (address word: 75) control module = 5.

^ Steering wheel electronics (address word: 16) control module = 12241.

^ Radio (address word: 56) control module = 2.

^ Sound system (address word: 47) control module = 16.

^ Display/ control unit (MMI) (address word: 07) = 103.

TELEMATICS (address word: 75) "FINAL CONTROL DIAGNOSIS"





^ Select address word "75 - Telematics".





^ Select diagnosis function "03 - Final control diagnosis".





^ Use forward arrow to advance through test. If "Final Control":

^ Further diagnosis should be performed.

Tip:
^ For Telematics (address word: 75) the loudspeaker must pulse.

^ Auxiliary speaker is located in the passenger B-pillar.

^ If loudspeaker does not pulse and the radio is functioning OK:

The problem may be with the radio coding.

^ Recheck radio coding and then recheck for radio DTCs.

DISABLING TRANSPORT MODE

Tip:
Transport mode should be off in a customer sold vehicle.





^ Return to "Select diagnosis function" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Select diagnosis function "10 - Adaption" .





^ Input "003" on keypad to select "Channel 3."

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





Channel 3 value should be "0".

If Channel 3 value is not "0":

^ Perform re-adaptation.

^ Select backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Input "008" on keypad to select "Channel 8".

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





Channel 8 value should be "0".

If Channel 8 value is not "0":

^ Perform re-adaptation.

SOUND SYSTEM (address word: 47) "FINAL CONTROL DIAGNOSIS"





^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Select address word "47 - Sound system".





^ Select diagnosis function "03 - Final control diagnosis".





^ Use forward arrow to advance through test.

Tip:
Make sure all speakers pulse that have a voltage applied (shown in lower part of screen.)

If "Final Control" tests fail:

^ Further diagnosis should be performed.

DIAGNOSTIC INTERFACE FOR DATA-BUS DIAGNOSIS (address word: 19)





^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Select address word "19 - Diagnostic interface for data-bus.





^ Select diagnosis function "08 - Read measuring Value Block".

^ Input "132" on keypad to select "Display group 132".

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





In Display group 132 the value in "Field 4" should be "Steer wheel 1".

If Display group 132 "Field 4" value is not "Steer wheel 1"

^ Further diagnosis should be performed.

^ Select backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Input "140" "on keypad to select "Display group 140".

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





In Display group 140 the value in "Field 1" (black arrow) should be "Radio 1".

In Display group 140 the value in "Field 2" (white arrow) should be "Navigation 1".

If Display group 140 "Fields 1 and 2" values are not as stated:

^ Further diagnosis should be performed.





^ Select upward arrow below display group number (arrow).

Display group will increase to "Display group 141".





In Display group 141 the value in "Field 1" (black arrow) should be "Dig. Soundp.".

In Display group 141 the value in "Field 3" (white arrow) should be "Telemat 1".

If Display group 141 "Fields 1 and 3" values are not as stated:

^ Further diagnosis should be performed.

STEERING WHEEL ELECTRONICS DIAGNOSIS (address word: 16)





^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

To check steering wheel mode and thumb wheel operation:

^ Select address word "16 - Steering wheel electronics".





^ From the module identification screen, select the forward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Select diagnosis function "08 - Read Measuring Valve Block".

^ Input "006" on keypad to select "Display group 6".

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





In Display group 6 the value in "Field 1" (black arrow) will change from "not operated" to "operated" when pressing the Mode button.

In Display group 6 the value in "Field 2" (white arrow) will change from "not operated" to "operated" when pressing the Push-to-Talk button.





In Display group 6 the value in "Field 3" (black arrow) will change from "not operated" to "operated" when pressing the left-hand thumbwheel.

In Display group 6 the value in "Field 4" (white arrow) will change from "not operated" to "operated" when pressing the right-hand thumbwheel.

^ Select upward arrow below display group number.

Display group will increase to "Display group 7".





In Display group 7 the value in "Field 1" (black arrow) will change from "not operated" to "mem. up / mem. down" when rotating left-hand thumbwheel.

In Display group 7 the value in "Field 2" (white arrow) will change from "not operated" to "louder / quieter" when rotating right-hand thumbwheel.

If results are not obtained:

^ Further diagnosis should be performed.

NAVIGATION (address word: 37) DIAGNOSIS

^ Take vehicle outside to a area with an unobstructed view of the sky.

^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.





^ Select address word "37 - Navigation".





^ Select diagnosis function "08 - Read Measuring Value Block".

^ Input "005" on keypad to select "Display group 5"

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





In Display group 5 the value in "Field 4" (arrow) should be "OK".

If Display group 5 value is incorrect:

^ Further diagnosis should be performed.





^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Select address word "75 - Telematics".





Select diagnosis function "08 - Read Measuring Value Block".

^ Input "002" on keypad to select "Display group 2".

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





The system should display 4 or more satellites (arrow).

^ Maneuver front of car in a direction close to north, south, east or west (your choice).

^ Select backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Input "028" on keypad to select "Display group 28".

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





Depending on vehicle direction, one of the following values (arrow) should be displayed: 00 = North, 90 = East, 180 = South or 270 = West.

Tip:
The value can fluctuate 20 degrees, a reading of 350 degrees could go to 10 degrees and be normal.

If readings are incorrect:

^ Check antenna and coax cable for the Telematic control module.

OnStar(R) DIAGNOSIS

Tip:
When checking operation of the three buttons while in measuring value blocks, the system will not call OnStar(R).





^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Select address word "75 - Telematics".





^ Select diagnosis function "08 - Read Measuring Value Block".

^ Input "004" on keypad to select "Display group 4".

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





In Display group 4 the value in "Field 4" (white arrow) will change from "not operated" to "operated" when pressing white dot OnStar(R) button.

In Display group 4 the value in "Field 2" (black arrow) will change from "not operated" to "operated" when pressing the red emergency OnStar(R) button.

^ Select downward arrow below display group number.

Display group will decrease to "Display group 3".





In Display group 3 the value in "Field 4" (arrow) will change from "not operated" to "operated" when pressing the blue OnStar(R) button.

If Display group values are not correct:

^ Further diagnosis should be performed.





^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Press the blue OnStar(R) button to connect with an OnStar(R) Advisor.

^ Inform the OnStar(R) Advisor that you are an Audi Technician working on the OnStar(R) system.

^ Verify the OnStar(R) Advisor can correctly locate the vehicle.

If test fails:

^ Further diagnosis should be performed.

Tip:
Thank the OnStar(R) Advisor and end call by pushing the OnStar(R) button with the white dot.

AUDI V60 DIGITAL PHONE DIAGNOSIS

^ First verify phone is an Audi V60.

^ Open the flip cover.

Audi rings on the faceplate should be visible.

^ Make sure rubber antenna plug on back of V60 phone is removed.

This allows for vehicle antenna connection when the V60 is docked in the cradle.

^ Place a call with the V60 outside the vehicle.

If call cannot be completed:

^ Contact Motorola Technical Support Helpline.

If call can be completed:

^ Proceed to next step.





^ Return to "Select vehicle system" screen using backward arrow on navigation bar.

^ Select address word "75 - Telematics".





^ Select diagnosis function "08 - Read Measuring Value Block".

^ Input "003" on keypad to select "Display group 3".

^ Select "Q" button to confirm.





With phone out of the cradle the value in "Field 2" (arrow) will be "not connected".

With phone docked in the cradle the value in "Field 2" (arrow) will be "connected".

^ Wiggle phone in cradle, and wiggle cradle.

"Field 2" value should remain "connected".

If "Field 2" value does not remain "connected".

^ Inspect cradle connector pins for damage.

^ Clean the phone and cradle contacts with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.

^ Re-test V60 phone.

If "Field 2" value does not remain "connected".

^ Test new cradle.

If "Field 2" value still does not remain "connected".

^ Check wiring harness from the Cradle to the Telematics control module.

Tip:
^ Plug phone into another vehicle to see if it has the same problem, indicating the problem maybe in the phone itself.

^ Certain V60 digital phone service features (call waiting, call forwarding etc.) are not available when phone is docked in cradle.

^ When testing the phone on an outbound or inbound call you must end the call with the "white" button in the OnStar(R) switch assembly or the lower right button on the steering wheel, as you would hang up your phone at home.

^ Failure to do this could result in the inability to receive an inbound call.

^ When making or receiving calls with the V60 docked in the cradle the green OnStar(R) light should be solid.

^ If the green light is blinking the call is being routed through OnStar(R), which is using OnStar(R) Personal Calling minutes.
