Condition

Should an electrical malfunction occur when the transmission is not in "p" (Park), the driver can remove the ignition key by following the instructions provided in the vehicle owner's manual. However, the vehicle owner's manual does not state that the transmission should be shifted into Park position before attempting ignition key emergency release.

In the event a customer contacts your dealership requesting assistance with ignition key emergency release, the following procedure describes proper steps for key removal.

Service

- Move transmission selector lever to "P" (Park).

- Switch ignition OFF.





- Remove cover -arrow-.

- Turn ignition key to the left and hold.





- Press emergency release button using pen or similar tool.

- With emergency release button pressed down, remove ignition key.

Tip:

For vehicles with VINs above 5N001042, key removal feature has been deleted, to comply with FMVSS 114.
