Electrical - Cooling Fan Won't Turn OFF /Battery Dead

Affected Vehicles
19 Cooling fan inoperable
Condition
- Battery discharged because the cooling fan is constantly running (emergency operation).
- The ground wire is abraded.
Technical Background
The pulley damages the wiring loom for the cooling fan control unit, causing a short circuit. Fuses installed in automotive wiring harnesses to prevent thermal events and damages to the vehicle prevent the danger of a fire in case the wire is abraded.
Production Solution
Wiring loom optimized.
Service
1. Repair the wiring loom with the repair case VAS 1978.
2. Change the routing of the wiring loom with a clip as shown in Figure 2.
