Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 34 number 09 - 01 dated January 23, 2009 for reasons listed below.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

CONDITION
First gear is sporadically difficult to select in cold operating conditions.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

When the gearbox is cold, it can be difficult to engage first gear. This condition is normal during the break-in period because of increased drag torque; this condition decreases with time. The stickiness is more pronounced with new, highly viscous oil.

If the gear changing is correct in warm condition, the condition is normal.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

Not applicable.

SERVICE

With vehicle stationary, engine not running and the clutch pressed, assess the gearshift. If all gears can be correctly selected, the external gearshift is correctly adjusted. If this is the case, further repairs will not change/improve the concern.

Changing gearbox oil will not improve the condition.
