Affected Vehicles
96 Audi Side Assist message displayed in driver information system
Condition
- When activating the Audi Side Assist, the following message may be displayed on the driver-information system: Audi Side Assist: System Error. At the second attempt to activate the system, the function is operating to manufacturing specification.
- Data Memory Entry 2071 (local data bus defect) may be sporadically stored in the Slave control unit for Audi Side Assist J770 (address word 3C).
Technical Background
Timing issue in the communication on the LIN bus between the two modules.

Optimized software introduced.
Service
1. Please verify the software version of the Slave control unit for Audi Side Assist J770 (address word 3C, Figure 1).
2. If the software version is either 110 or 120, the control unit has to be updated via SVM to software version 130. The SVM action code for this update is 4L3CA001.
Follow all instructions in TSB 2011732 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.
Tip:
Replacing the control unit will not be necessary.
