CONDITION

Customers with dynamic steering (1N7) may complain of a rubbing, whirring or motor-type noise from the steering column while turning.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

Particles found in the harmonic drive. A new cleaning process to eliminate particles has been introduced.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

New cleaning process to eliminate particles.

SERVICE

1. Remove lower steering column trim.

2. Disconnect the dynamic steering column motor connector.

3. Retest for noise.

^ If the noise is gone, replace the steering column.

^ If noise is still present, continue diagnosis and submit a Technical Assistance Center ticket.
