Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 64 number 11 - 16 dated November 14, 2011 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
Condition
The customer may state wind noises above 45 mph in the front door area, or whistling when the blower is at high speed.
Technical Background
1. The inner window channel strip of the window guide may be incorrectly sealed which may cause a leak and wind noise.
2. The grommet for door mirror wiring loom may be incorrectly fitted.
Production Solution
Two improvements have been implemented in production; first the rubber, mirror base grommet was improved, and also butyl cord has been added to the ends of the window channel strip.
Service
Procedure for Front/Rear Door
1. The interface between the inner window channel strip and the window guide may be improperly sealed, as shown in Figures 1A, 1B.
2. Remove inner door panel and window frame trim according to the repair manual:
Body >> Body Interior >> 70 Interior Trim >> Removal and Installation >> Window Frame Trim
Remove the inner window guide according to the repair manual (Figure 2).
3. Apply a 5 cm long butyl cord (AKL 450 005 05) on both corners of the window guide in the area of the foam strip (Figure 3).
4. Fit the inner window channel strip. On the left and right it must fit correctly on the window guide and all the gaps to the window guide must be closed by the butyl cord (Figure 4). Smooth out any excess by pressing on the inner window channel strip.
Procedure for the mirror grommet
1. Remove the door mirror according to the repair manual.
Body >> Body Exterior >> 66 Exterior Equipment >> Removal and Installation >> Exterior Rear View Mirror
Check the grommet for kinks or waviness (Figure 5A). Remove any kinks or waviness with a hot air blower. (Figure 5B)
2. Spray the wiring loom around the grommet with a lubricant, remove the paper sticker on the wire loom, and pull the grommet as far as possible away from the mirror base plate (Figures 6A, 6B).
3. Attach a butyl cord on the outer sealing surface of the grommet. Make sure that the butyl cord is completely closed without any gaps (Figure 7).
4. Replace the foam inner door seal, located between the mirror base/door, and ensure the proper fitting (Figure 8).
Carefully install the grommet and press down the butyl. The wire harness will easily slide through the grommet because of the lubricant previously applied (Figure 8).
