Condition
Customer Complaint:
^ Front parking assistance does not work.
^ The message: "ACC and Audi braking guard not available" may appear.
Workshop Findings:
^ Various DTCs present under the parking aid / parallel parking assistance control module, J791 (address word 10), for sensors in the front bumper.
^ The complaint may or may not be reproducible.
Technical Background
Water can get into the 8-pin connector between the central wiring harness and the front bumper harness.
Production Solution
Modified production process.
Service
1. Inspect the connector between the front bumper harness and the central wiring harness for water ingress (Figure 1, Figure 2). If no water ingress is found, this bulletin does not apply.
2. If water ingress is discovered at the connector, replace the front bumper harness. Repair the central wiring harness by cutting the wires back until the corrosion is no longer present, and repair the contacts using the VAS 1978B wiring repair kit.
Tip:
Replace the seals around each contact that is repaired to prevent water from entering the plug again.
