SUBJECT: Required Fuel Grades

MODELS: All (with M42, M50 and M70 Engines)
Situation: With the introduction of the 525i (M50), 318iAs (M42) and the 850i (M70) there has been an increased number of inquiries concerning the fuel grade required for these models/engines.

The recommended fuel grades for the above listed models are:

Model Engine Type Fuel Grade Minimum AKI

318i/is M42B18 Premium Unleaded 90
525i M50B25 Premium Unleaded 90
850i M70B50 Regular Unleaded 87

Further fuel grade information for all other BMW models is listed in the latest edition of the Technical Data Microfiche under Group 13.

Note: The information pertaining to the various fuel grades should also be brought to the attention of sales personnel to avoid the use of unsuitable fuel grades by the customer.
