This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. 62 10 98 dated January 2000.

SUBJECT:
Revised Instrument Cluster Software

MODEL
All 318ti, Z3 roadster and Z3 coupe

SITUATION

1. Replacement Instrument Cluster requires coding.

2. "Test functions" cannot be displayed.

3. Where either the Coding Plug, or the Instrument Cluster has been replaced, the manipulation dot cannot be put out.

CAUSE
Introduction of a revised Instrument Cluster.

For information, the revised instrument cluster:

^ Can be recognized visually by the letters "CAN" on the white bar-code label.

^ Is codeable when installed on vehicles produced from 9/98.

^ Has (21) "Test Functions"

^ May be installed as a service replacement for vehicles produced before 9/98.

Note:
For vehicles produced before 9/98, new and old style Instrument Clusters are mixed in the BMW parts supply system under the same part number. For installation of the old style Instrument Cluster which has (15) "Test Functions", refer to Repair Instruction 62 10 000.
