SUBJECT: Center Air Distribution Lever Binds

MODEL: E30

Situation: Tolerance variations between the air conditioning/heater housing and the duct work above it may cause the center lever to bind as a result of reduced clearance between the vent outlet flap and the heater housing.

Correction: Fabricate two spacers and install (as indicated in accompanying drawing) on top of the heater housing, forward of the radio.

NOTE: This repair is necessary only in the event of a customer complaint.

The spacers can be fabricated of any readily available wood (such as pine). They should be cut so that the grain of the wood is horizontal (in the installed position.)

The supplied diagram is full scale. It is suggested that you make several photocopies of the original diagram and use the copies as templates.

Information: Spacers will be made available from the Parts Department in the near future.

Warranty
Information: Labor reimbursable under the terms of the applicable BMW New Car Limited Warranty.

Labor allowance 5 FRU (Associated Work)

Both of the above labor allowances include R + R radio.

Note: The following explanations will spell out the correct use of the work times.

Main Work: Use this time when the only repair performed is the listed warranty repair.
Associated work: Use this time when other repairs or services are performed along with the listed warranty repair.

Under no circumstances should both work times be claimed. Attempts to both times will result in an unnecessary delay in claim processing and payment.

Any questions regarding warranty coverage should be discussed with your District Service Manager.
