Heater Core Case: Service and Repair
Removal:- Discharge air conditioning system.
CAUTION:
Automotive refrigerant containing CFC's is hazardous to the earth's atmosphere.
To protect our environment, use an Underwriter's Laboratory (UL) approved refrigerant recovery recycling unit whenever discharging an A/C system.
- Disconnect battery ground lead.
- Remove dash panel.
- Pull off rubber strip (1).
- Cut open wire straps (2).
- Unscrew bolts (3).
- Place cover (4) aside.
- Drain coolant.
- Disconnect both water hoses.
- Disconnect plugs (1) connecting heater wire harness and car wire harness.
- Unscrew nut (1) and bolt (2).
- Take off bracket (3).
- Counterhold on expansion valve (4) with wrench (5) and disconnect A/C lines (1 and 2).
- Insert plugs (3) in open connections immediately.
- Remove connector (1) between heater (3) and rear area heater duct (2) on left and right sides.
- Unscrew left and right nuts (1).
- Close bypass flaps (2), because the heater can only be removed in this state.
- Remove the heater box.
Installation Notes
- Check sealing frame (1), replacing if necessary.
- Make sure sleeve (1) has perfect fit in body wall.
- Condensation water drains (1,2 & 3) and rear area heater ducts (5 and (6) must be connected to heater.
- Check rubber mount (4), replacing if necessary.
- Replace seals for A/C line connections.
- Refill and bleed cooling system, check coolant level.
- Charge and check air conditioner for leaks after installation.
