Situation:





During engine repairs which involve the removal and installation of the cylinder head, the Repair Instructions for Construction Groups - Group 11 refers to the use of BMW Special Tool Number 11 2 300 which is used to hold the crankshaft in the Top Dead Center (TDC) position. The illustration shows where to install the special tool after removal of the cover plug on the left side of the engine block below the starter motor.

CAUTION:
Remove the special tool prior to operation of the engine.

Information:
The crankshaft holding tool (11 2 300) is an existing tool which was introduced for the M21 engine and is also used on M70 and M50 engines.
