Front Window Sealing -

Sealing of the frameless front side windows has been accomplished by BMW's unique system first introduced in the 850i.

The top seal, mounted to the roof structure, holds the door window firmly in place when the window is closed. When the outside or inside door handle is actuated and the window is in its uppermost position, the window immediately lowers 0.6 in. (15.2 mm) to allow opening of the door. When the door is closed again, the window automatically returns to its fully closed position. The result: when closed, the window is held securely in the top seal, controlling wind noise optimally.

Should an interruption of power to the window lift mechanism occur, the doors can still be opened and closed. However, caution should be exercised and when closing the doors from the outside, it may be beneficial to press the window inward slightly to ensure proper seating of the window seal.

The one-touch or toll-booth function is incorporated on both front side windows for the first time on 3 Series models.

A safety circuit in the door windows is also incorporated which can sense an object when closing and reverses direction for a short distance to prevent injury.
