SUBJECT:
Engine Oil Pan Removal and Installation

MODELS:
E36

Information:
A modification to the rear mounting points of the front sub frame and frame rails on E36 vehicles produced after 9/92, allows the sub frame to self-center itself after repairs have been performed when it was necessary to lower the sub frame; i.e., oil pan removal and installation.

This modification (self-centering action) eliminates the need for aligning the vehicle's suspension after performing operations which include lowering the sub frame.

Note:
The revised procedure for removing and installing sealing or replacing oil pan for E36 vehicles produced after 9/92 is outlined in Repair Instructions Microfiche, 3 Series E36, Group 11.

Warranty Information:
The labor allowance has been adjusted accordingly for labor operation 11-13,000 - removing and installing/sealing or replacing oil pan; due to the revised repair procedures which eliminates the need to raise the engine to remove the oil pan on vehicles produced after 9/92.
