Handling of Instrument Clusters
MODELS: 3 Series (E36)
Situation:
A significant percentage of Instrument Clusters which have been returned from the field exhibit mechanical damage caused by improper handling. In many cases, the Instrument Cluster had been opened or the glass damaged.
Vehicles Affected:
All E36 vehicles.
Procedure:
Please pay careful attention to the information to ensure that warranty claims for Instrument Cluster replacements are paid.
Do Not Open the E36 Instrument Cluster
It is not permitted to open E36 Instrument Clusters under any circumstances. They must be returned with no damage to the sealing label.
Do Not Remove Bulbs
Returned Instrument Clusters must still have a complete set of bulbs.
Do Not Damage the Instrument Cluster
Please treat the Instrument Cluster with the utmost care when removing it. Mechanical damage will result in a debit of the warranty claim.
Include the Diagnostic Printout
Diagnosis, including producing the diagnostic printout, is part of the repair scope covered by the Labor Operation number for replacing the Instrument Cluster. Therefore, Instrument Clusters returned to the Warranty Parts Return Center without a diagnostic printout will be returned and the warranty claim will be debited.
