Instrument Lighting Flicker

Situation:
In a few cases, the odometer display as well as the MID backlighting flickers with the ignition in the "RUN" position with the headlights turned on.

Correction:
In case of a customer complaint, replace the dimmer switch. All parts stock has been purged of the defective switches.

The "AB" vendor switches were improved as of week 30, 1992 and the "Kostal" vendor switches were improved as of week 14, 1992. The production date of any switch can be identified by a three digit code on the body of the switch. The code is located on the lower rear edge on "AB" switches and near the connector body on "Kostal" switches. The first two digits of the code represent the week, the last digit represents the last digit of the year (e.g. 073 is the 7th week of 1993, 142 was the 14th week of 1992, etc.)

Note the new switch will have a different part number molded on the body than what was specified when ordering. Either P/N 61 31 1 387 457 or 61 31 1 387 429 may be on the switch body.
