Re: Recall Campaign No. 94V-151

Dear BMW Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

BMW AG has determined that certain 1993-94 model year 3-series and 1995 model year M3 automobiles fail to conform fully to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208. Our records show that you are the owner of one of the vehicles that is subject to the recall campaign.

Description of Noncompliance
BMW has found that, in vehicle crash testing involving a 30 mph frontal impact with a fixed, rigid barrier, the unbelted driver dummy may experience a chest load and the unbelted front passenger dummy may experience a left femur load that exceed the FMVSS 208 limits.

Description of Repair
The repair will consist of various modifications to the steering column and driver's knee bolster on all affected vehicles and to the transmission mounting system on models with automatic transmission.

This repair will require approximately three hours and will be performed free of charge by your Authorized BMW Dealer. Additional time may be required depending on the Dealer's scheduling and processing.

Precautions

1. Contact your Authorized BMW Dealer immediately to have the necessary repair performed as soon as possible.

2. Always wear your safety belt and ensure that all passengers are properly restrained at all times. This is especially important because the noncompliance involves unbelted occupants only.

3. Even if you and your passengers normally wear your safety belts and, therefore, are not directly affected by the noncompliance, please have the necessary repairs performed promptly.

4. If you are not the sole driver of your car, please advise all other drivers of these necessary precautions.

Other Information
If you are no longer the owner of this vehicle, we would appreciate your furnishing us with the name and address of the new owner, using the enclosed return postage-paid card.

Should you have any questions about this campaign, please contact your Authorized BMW Dealer.

We appreciate your confidence in our product, and we wish to do everything we can to retain your confidence. Should you need additional assistance, you may contact BMW's Information Center at 1-800-434-4423.
