Quality Control - Revised
* The various modifications that comprise this Recall Campaign must all be performed properly in order for each vehicle to comply with FMVSS 208. A comprehensive Quality Control check system should be in place in each dealership to inspect cars that have been modified, to ensure that all necessary modifications have been performed properly.A Quality Control Checklist has been developed to assist in this process. This checklist can be used by the technician while performing the repair as a reminder of which steps need to be carried out, and can also be utilized by those responsible for performing Quality Control checks. Pads of these checklists are being allocated to your dealership in accordance with the number of vehicles in operation. Additional copies may be ordered under SD 92-056, using the attached materials order form.
An alternative method of performing quality checks is to inspect the parts removed from each vehicle. The removed parts should include:
- A used Hardy disc
- Two used bolts and nuts from Hardy disc
- Broken off ears from ignition lock housing
- Used upper column trim (without cuts)
- Used lower column trim (without score marks inside)
- Cut off end of steering column support tube bracket (or solid bolt from 9/92 - 11/92 production cars)
- 325 automatics: Two used rear trans mounts and body cross brace with bell housing mount.
In order to provide for a more convenient way to file the recall bulletins, we are also shipping one designated 4 ring binder with tab inserts to each dealership. Additional binders can be ordered under SD 92-057, as long as supplies last, using the attached order form.*
