Water Spilling into Trunk when Opening Trunk Lid

MODELS:
325i Convertible (E36)

Situation:
E36 convertibles produced prior to 9/93 have gas pressure springs operating the trunk lid which opens the trunk so quickly that water standing on the lid can spill into the trunk.

The operating characteristics of the gas pressure spring have been modified so that the final portion of travel is slowed. This allows any water standing on the deck lid to run off prior to the lid opening fully, preventing the water from dropping into the trunk.

Correction:
In case of customer complaint, replace the gas pressure springs. All springs in inventory are of the new style.

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Car Limited Warranty.
