Noises from Wiper Motor

MODEL:
3 Series (E36) two-door (including convertible) - vehicles produced prior to 9/94

Situation:

While a slight amount of noise from wiper motor is normal, some motors may exhibit a high-pitched whistling or howling noise that is excessive.

Cause:

The step-up gear in the wiper motor.

Correction:

On a customer complaint basis only, and only if the wiper motor is definitely producing high-pitched whistling or howling noises, replace the wiper motor only. Refer to Repair Instructions Section 61 61 250.

Notes:





Modified wiper motors carry the designation "M 1:55" (gear ratio) on the motor label.

Wiper motors built 9/94 and later are not affected.
