Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

4. Opening Rear Door With Actuator Stuck In Double-Lock Pos.

If one of the central locking actuators on a rear door should fail in the double-lock position, the door cannot be opened until the door latch assembly has been overridden. This can be done without damaging the inner door panel or other locking components.

1. Remove the rear seat cushion.

2. Remove the lock button, inside release handle bezel, and the two retaining screws.

3. Remove the inner panel, taking care not to bend it.

4. Remove soundproofing sheet.

5. Use a mirror and a long thin screwdriver to reach the latch assembly and trigger the lock.

Note:
Even with the mirror, ft is extremely difficult to see the area of the latch assembly where the lock must be tripped. If a latch assembly is available in your parts department, it is very helpful to have it on hand while attempting this operation, so that you can see just what part of the mechanism you are attempting to contact.

It is not necessary to force the latch. Once contact is made with the proper part of the mechanism a slight push will allow the lock to move, and a click will be heard. The door can then be opened normally.
