Complaint C
Complaint C:The starter operates after a delay.
Cause C:
The following causes are possible:
^ The coil ends (1) of the ring antenna could be short-circuited to the conductive rubber ring (2) located near the connector. This can disturb data exchange and cause the EWS II Control Module to require additional time to evaluate the transponder data.
^ There may also be a fault in the ignition switch or in the starter motor.
Correction C:
1. If the vehicle was produced prior to December 1995, carefully remove the ring antenna clipped onto the ignition lock, replace the rubber ring (2) (P/N 32 32 1 094 182) on the ignition lock, and reinstall the ignition lock. Also replace the Send/Receive (S/E) Module if the vehicle was produced prior to December 1995.
Note:
The non-conductive rubber ring has been installed in series production since mid-November 1995.
The old rubber rings (P/N 32 311 092 850) must not be used.
2. If the vehicle was produced December 1995 or later, troubleshoot the starter motor circuit.
