PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.
SUBJECT:
Service Action to Check Hose Routing in M Mobility System
MODEL:
M roadster, M coupe
Situation:
Some M Mobility units may have been improperly assembled by the supplier, so that the air hoses inside the unit are misrouted and crimped. This can result in the unit transferring sealant very slowly or not at all when the customer attempts to use the unit to repair a flat tire.
Affected Vehicles:
This Service Action affects all M roadsters and M coupes produced from 10/98 through 1/99, as well as earlier production cars that received an M Mobility unit that was produced prior to 2/99.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
Model Chassis Number Range
M roadster LC85002 - LC89348
M coupe LC60010 - LC60999
Correction:
BMW is conducting a Service Action to inspect all affected units, and to correct any hoses that are improperly routed.
Procedure:
Remove the unit from the car and check the small (40 mm X 25 mm) white label on the side of the unit. If the expiration date on the label is later than 30.01.2002, no further checking is needed. Proceed to "Label Instructions".
Note:
The date is in day - month - year order.
If the date on the label is prior to 30.01.2002, the unit will have to be checked.
Remove the four screws (1) from the cover.
Check routing of hoses. The correct routing of the air hose to the sealant bottle (1) and the hose to the pressure gauge (2) is illustrated.
Note:
Illustration is with front cover oft to show positioning.
This illustrates an example of improper hose routing. The air hose to the sealant bottle (1) is run over the relay and kinked. The hose to the pressure gauge (2) is run behind the sealant bottle.
If hoses are improperly routed, carefully peel oft warning label and place aside face down so that adhesive does not get dirty.
Remove the nut (1) from the inlet port and separate hose from cover.
Carefully re-route hoses per illustration of properly routed hoses, and re-install cover while ensuring that hoses do not get kinked. Re-install nut and screws and tighten to 2 Nm. Re-install label.
Service Action Label Instructions:
This Service Action has been assigned code number 244. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-120) and:
a) emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
b) punch out code number 244 printed on the label and,
c) affix the label to the B pillar as shown:
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
Warranty Information:
Reimbursement for this action will be via campaign entry.
