Replacement of M-Mobility System

MODEL:
M roadster, M coupe

Situation:
Because of technical difficulties with the sealant used in the M-mobility system, it was temporarily deleted from production cars as of March 17, 1998 production. All BMW centers were advised to remove the systems from any cars in inventory via a DCS message on March 18, 1998, and a fax on March 20, 1998.

The problems with the sealant were corrected, and the M-Mobility system was again installed in production as of October 7, 1998.

In order to minimize the inconvenience to the customer, BMW will ship the new system directly to all owners of M roadsters and M coupes that were delivered without the system. This will allow the owner to install the system in the trunk of their car without having to make a special trip to their BMW center. A copy of the letter advising the owners of the replacement program is included for your information. The supplier of the M-Mobility system is not able to provide all of the missing units at once, so BMW will ship the units as they become available, based on the delivery date of the car.

All M-Mobility systems that were removed from cars in inventory prior to delivery must be returned to BMW.

Procedure:
Most M roadster and M coupe owners will be able to install their new M-Mobility system without requiring any assistance. However, if an owner should have any questions about the installation or operation of the system, please make every effort to assist them. A copy of the installation instructions is included for your convenience.

All early style M-Mobility systems that were removed by the BMW centers prior to delivery of the car must be returned to the BMW Warranty Parts Return Center. Please package all removed units together, mark the box "Attn. Service Engineering-M-Mobility units" and return the units with your next warranty parts shipment. Since these units will be reassembled with the improved sealant, please package them carefully to prevent damage.
