Re: BMW Vehicle Identification Number (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

Dear M roadster/M coupe Owner,

Federal EPA and California ARB regulations require that your automobile is equipped with a Vehicle Emission Control Information label. An incorrect label may have been installed on your BMW vehicle.

In order to save you a trip to your authorized BMW center to have the label checked and replaced if necessary, you may perform the required steps yourself. However, if you desire, you may bring your car and the enclosed label to your BMW center, and they will perform the inspection at no charge to you.

To check the label on your car:

- Open the hood and locate the Vehicle Emission Control Information label on the underside of the hood as shown below.

- Check the identification number on the lower right hand corner of the label

If the number on the label reads "1 439 258 b", it must be replaced. lithe number on the label reads "1 439 258 c" as shown above, no further action is necessary.

- If the label on your car is incorrect, wipe it off with a clean cloth. Peel the backing off the label enclosed with this letter, and carefully place it directly over the one on the car. Work out any air bubbles by wiping with a cloth.

If you do not wish to perform the inspection and replacement you may bring your car and the label to your BMW center, and they will perform the work at no charge.

Please note that an incorrect Vehicle Emission Control Information label may cause problems when registering your vehicle or ii you live in a State with a SMOG Check program and your vehicle must pass an emissions test, as required by State law.

If you no longer own this vehicle, we would greatly appreciate your furnishing us with the name and address of the new owner, using the enclosed return postage-paid card.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Very truly yours,

BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, INC.
