SUBJECT
Intermittent IHKA Blower Operation

MODEL
E46 produced prior to 06/2000

SITUATION
The IHKA blower will intermittently cut out. The IHKA LCD display will indicate that the blower is operating even though the blower is not functioning.

CAUSE
IHKA final stage resistor (blower regulator).

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, replace the IHKA final stage resistor with an improved part (P/N 64 11 8 385 549).

PROCEDURE





1. The IHKA blower final stage resistor (2) is located behind the right side footwell vent duct (1).





2. Remove the glove box (1) and rear trim panel (2) to access the area behind the duct (3).





3. Remove the two attaching screws from the stepper motor (1) bracket and carefully disconnect the flap rod from the stepper motor arm. Remove the stepper motor to access the final stage resistor (2).





4. Remove the connector from the final stage resistor and the two attaching screws (1). Remove the IHKA blower final stage resistor and replace it with the improved PN 64 11 8 385 549.

5. Reinstall all components and ensure the stepper motor rod is securely fastened in the clip.
