SUBJECT
Safety Belt Warning Chimes While Driving

MODEL
E53 (X5) from 10/04

SITUATION
The customer complains that the safety belt warning chimes while driving. The driver safety belt is buckled correctly.

CAUSE
From 10/04 vehicle production and at speeds over 5 mph, the front passenger seat mat also activates the safety belt warning if the seat is occupied and the belt is not buckled.

PROCEDURE
Front seat passengers must always fasten their safety belts while driving.

In addition, the passenger safety belt warning may also activate if heavy objects are placed on the front passenger seat.
