SUBJECT
Airbag Warning Lamp, FC 93EB or FC 55

MODEL
E90, E91 (3 Series) and E83 (X3) Vehicles produced March 31, 2006

SITUATION
The red airbag warning lamp (AWL) in the instrument cluster is illuminated and a fault code for "Emergency call function..." is stored in the MRS5 (Multiple Restraint System) control module. The fault code is FC 93EB for the E90 and E91 or FC 55 for the X3. The fault occurs regardless of whether the vehicle has a TCU (Telematics Control Unit) or not.

CAUSE
Internal varistor fault within the MRS control module

CORRECTION
The TCU must not be replaced.

[NEW] E90 and E91 The problem has been integrated into DIS diagnostics. Follow diagnostics and the relevant test plan using the latest DIS version.

E83 Replace the MRS5 control module and refer to repair instruction RA 65 77 016 (Removing and installing/replacing airbag control unit). Code the MRS control module as described in SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Programming and Individualization), Procedure E.
