SUBJECT
CID or IHKA Total Failure Because F61 or F77 Is Blown
MODEL
E91 (3 Series)
SITUATION
The CID (Central Information Display) or the IHKA (Integrated Automatic Heating and Air Conditioning System) fails to operate. The CID goes totally dark or the IHKA stops functioning.
[NEW]CAUSE
A short circuit in the luggage compartment light mounted in the tailgate causes:
1. Fuse F61 to blow on vehicles produced up to 9/2007
2. Fuse F77 to blow on vehicles produced from 9/2007
PROCEDURE
1. [NEW] Perform a vehicle test and complete all related test plans.
2. [NEW] Remove the luggage compartment light from the tailgate in accordance with REP 63 31 085.
3. [NEW] Fold out the cover on the rear of the luggage compartment light in accordance with REP 63 99 452.
4. [NEW] Check the luggage compartment light in the tailgate assembly, and:
a. [NEW] Verify that the trim is not resting on or touching the contacts for the light bulb.
b. [NEW] Replace the light if the reflector is found to be loose. Refer to the ETK (Electronics Parts Catalog).
5. Check Fuse F61 or F77 and replace as necessary.
6. Check the functionality of the system afier the repair.
